General Terms of Business

  • We aim to provide a diagnosis and repair (where possible) within a reasonable period of time. Customers must accept that we do not operate a booking system and some times of the year are busier than others. We will always endeavour to keep customers as up to date on the progress of their repairs as possible. This will be via telephone, email and popular social media platforms (e.g. WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger etc.).
  • We do not offer credit facilities and full payment is required on the completion of all work. Payment can be made by either cash or card on collection from our workshop. We can (and do) send invoices and accept bank transfers and card payments over the phone, but this must be completed and paid prior to collection from our workshop. On-site visits/dropoffs must be paid by card/cash before the technician leaves. We do not accept cheques.
  • VAT. We are VAT registered in England and Wales (registration number GB247112626) and will apply VAT on all charges at the prevailing rate. We will always quote a ‘+VAT’ price for all jobs.
  • Harpenden Computer Services cannot be responsible for the performance and/or integrity of any third party software and/or services including Internet providers, although charges will still apply for work undertaken by us.
  • Harpenden Computer Services, under no circumstances, will be held responsible for any lost or corrupt data before, during or after work carried out. We will always take reasonable precautions to keep customers’ data safe and secure but it is the customer’s responsibility to hold their own up-to-date backups.
  • Refurbished computers will always be supplied with genuine, licensed software unless specifically agreed to be supplied without such software. Refurbished computers are guaranteed for a minimum of 90 days from the date of sale against hardware failure. Problems arising from misuse, damage (accidental or otherwise), failure to adequately protect the computer from viruses, spyware and malware and other such malicious programs are not covered. Batteries and other consumable items such as a keyboard or mouse are excluded from any warranty.
  • If you are unhappy with our service in any way, please write to us at your earliest convenience at the address at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, we can be contacted via electronic mail or telephone using the contact details found on this website.
  • Upon request, Harpenden Computer Services will dispose of any unwanted equipment/components/peripherals free of charge to existing customers. A small fee may be charged for new customers. We regret however that once removed, items will be disposed of immediately and cannot be returned under any circumstances.
  • Harpenden Computer Services may recommend specific software to remove malware/viruses/spyware and further protect your computer from such malicious items in the future. We cannot, however, guarantee 100% protection from these items and will not be held responsible if your computer still becomes infected. Any third party software is not affiliated with Harpenden Computer Services in any way unless otherwise stated.
  • For quality and training purposes, Harpenden Computer Services may record telephone calls and any other forms of communication, digital or otherwise.
  • Failure to make full payment for work carried out after 90 days of completion will result in any equipment becoming the property of Harpenden Computer Services Ltd. Devices will then be sold/destroyed (as HCS see fit) in order to recoup funds for our time and, if applicable, any parts purchased to repair said equipment. Any personal data will not be held and will be destroyed in a secure manner in line with all relevant regulations.
  • Abandoned devices. All devices not collected within 90 days of diagnosis/completion will be classed as abandoned. This means that if a customer’s product, e.g. a laptop, is brought into our workshop for repair, and is ‘abandoned’ by the customer for a period of 90 days (from the date of completion or diagnosis), Harpenden Computer Services will recycle or otherwise dispose of or sell the item (s) as a loss recovery measure in order to recover any costs incurred, including parts and/or labour charges.
